Our History
Who are we?
Although our organization is often called the St. Rocco – St. Anthony Society, our full name is The Italian American Mutual Aid Society of St. Rocco and St. Anthony of Padua. This name reflects the organization’s original purpose – to be an aid society for Italian Americans. The Society is currently comprised of over 100 Catholic men of Italian descent. Although the annual Italian Fest is one of our organization’s largest and most visible events, we also provide various works of charity to our community.
Our organizational history:
On August 6, 1899, the Italian Beneficial Society (Società di Beneficenza Italiana) was formed
The Workman’s Mutual Aid Society of King Humbert I (Società Operaia di Mutuo Soccórso, Umberto I) was formed on February 23, 1902
The Confraternity of San Rocco was formed in 1918
On September 17, 1922, the St. Rocco Mutual Aid Society (Società di Mutuo Soccórso, San Rocco) was formed by combining the Confraternity of San Rocco and Italian Beneficial Society
On April 26, 1936, the Workman’s Mutual Aid Society of King Humbert I, had its name changed to the Workman’s Mutual Aid Society of St. Anthony of Padua (Società Operaia di Mutuo Soccórso, San Antonio di Padova)
